Tor-Arne Sletmoen, Managing Director of Geno Global remarks:

Tor-Arne Sletmoen
Manageing Direcotor, Geno Global
«We have been encouraged by the initial response to dairy crossbreeding in the UK. A growing number of British dairy farmers recognise the value of crossbreeding in their breeding programme. The key dairy breed at Geno is the Norwegian Red (NRF), a breed recognised for the impressive health and fertility traits. However we see the benefits of promoting a total crossbreeding programme, therefore Geno UK will market a broad spectrum of breeds to meet the needs of the UK dairy farmer.»
Wes Bluhm has been named as the Managing Director of Geno UK. Wes brings more than 25 years professional experience in semen sales to his new role.

«Research and experience has shown that crossbreeding can more quickly improve health and reproduction traits in dairy cattle. But it must be done correctly to capture these benefits. As crossbreeding specialists, we are here to provide accurate information and products to answer the needs of those looking to achieve the benefits of crossbreeding.
National database
Norway has an enviable national database that includes milk production, health and reproduction information on all cows from vets, A.I., milk laboratories and slaughter houses. Based on this, the Norwegian Red has included health and fertility traits in their breeding programme for over 30 years. This emphasis on animal health, as well as production, has enabled the breed to improve production and fertility/health traits.»
A farmer co-op
As a farmer co-op, Geno is responsive to their farmer members. One of the most interesting new products is SpermVital, sperm that lives up to 3x longer in the cow’s reproductive tract. This provides a broader window of opportunity for successfully inseminating the cow and achieving pregnancy.
Notes:
- Geno Norway is a co-operative established in 1935 with over 12,000 members.
- Norwegian Red (NRF) is a true dual purpose breed with 330 bulls a year selected for sampling.
- Over 750 bulls housed.
